Professor Joseph M. Professor Cheer is a widely cited scholar and policy advisor specialising in sustainable development, resilience and destination governance. From 2022 to 2025, he was listed in the Top 2% of researchers in his primary field of research, Sport, Leisure and Tourism. 

He holds qualifications in cultural tourism (PhD), tourism geographies (Master's) and business (Bachelor's) and over the past two decades, he has worked with universities, governments, international organisations, NGOs and private sector leaders to navigate sustainable tourism development, climate vulnerability, destination governance, community inclusion and long-term social-ecological resilience.
